Justification for Using this Tool
Justification 1 - Collaborative Learning
Justification 1 - Collaborative Learning
- Clark and Meyer define collaborative learning as the social interaction and engagements among teams of two or more using synchronous or asynchronous tools in a way to support the instructional goals (2011). Google Docs promotes collaborative learning and serves as a collaborative tool and platform for the collaborative development of ideas from initial thinking to final editing.
- According to elaboration theory, learning content needs to be broken down from simple chunks to more complex and meaningful knowledge (Reigeluth, 1983). Google Docs supports the elaboration theory by allowing the learners to sequence and organize content in an order of complexity through the use of formatting, visuals, and tables.
- Clark et Meyer categorize thinking skills into three sections as creative thinking, critical thinking and metacognition that involves the planning, evaluating and monitoring of ideas. (Clark & Meyer, 2011). Google docs is a tool where learners can make use of in documenting their thinking skills throughout the three categories.
